Cabana bed

Cabana bed 1

It conjures up the magic of a cabana on a tropical beach or the mystery of a tent in a temporary camp set up by nomadic shepherds in the desert. The material utilized is inspired by the Maloca of the Amazons and has been used before by Edra and the Campana Brothers for other projects at Triennale of Milan, Museo Vitra and MAXXI of Rome. It is a bed that expresses a longing for intimacy, a futuristic and ironic evolution of the once upon a time canopy beds. The long raffia straws dangle with the wind, reinforcing the intent of projecting relaxation in the outdoors.
Closed in, with all four sides protected by the lowered raffia veils, Cabana shelters from intrusions. Partially open, it invites to get inside an intimate world still connected with the outside. Totally open, with the raffia curtains tied to the four posts, it recalls the look of those beach cabanas that offer protection from a sizzling sun but invite to breathe in the ocean breeze.
The metallic tubular structure is totally hidden by raffia veils treated with a special process making the material self-extinguishing. The slatted bed-base is made out of plywood.
